TINU-UHAN SA SAMBOAN

A friend of mine, Doris Ogdoc, asked for my help to edit the video interviews they had about oral tradition in Sambuan for her project in Masters of Literature.

The statements in the video that I believe were significant are:

Are we such a forgiving people, we easily forget what the Spanish colonizers did to us, not only usurping our resources before. But up until now, we are actually still bound to their supremacy. We have allowed their religious practices to reign over our way of life.

It does not mean that the tradition handed down by generations past should be embraced and preserved just to achieve that “cultural identity” we have as Filipinos. Studying our heritage would rather give us illumination of why we should unlearn some culture that has long bound us for our development as a nation. (Doris Ogdoc)
